Tennessee Titans: Week 2 Fantasy Outlook

The long-awaited start to the fantasy football season is now in the rear view mirror, and I hope that everyone reading this is now one win closer to a playoff berth.

The Tennessee Titans face the Detroit Lions this Sunday, so today we will discuss the Titans players that can help you win your fantasy match up this week, as well as the players you should avoid this week.

Must Start

DeMarco Murray – RB: Murray posted a solid fantasy stat line last week in his debut as a Titan with 77 total yards (42 rush, 35 receiving) and two scores. Even more encouraging were the seven targets and five receptions he had last Sunday, an ideal scenario for points per reception leagues. Look for Murray to continue to be heavily featured in the run and passing game going forward, making him a solid fantasy play this week.

Delanie Walker – TE: Head coach Mike Mularkey conceded that tight end Delanie Walker wasn’t featured in last week’s game plan as much as he should have. He finished the day with 3 receptions for 42 yards, and was fourth in Mariota’s pecking order with just five targets. Walker will see the targets you both desire this week in a game in which the Titans will have to pass a lot more to win.

Tajae Sharpe – WR: The rookie fifth round pick also posted a solid fantasy stat line in his debut as a Titan last week with a team leading seven catches for 76 yards. He also led the team in targets with eleven, which is the biggest development for you points per reception fantasy leagues. Although Walker will see an uptick in targets this week, it should not put a dent in Sharpe’s opportunities as he’s been Mariota’s favorite target since he arrived in Nashville.

Have A Seat, Sir

Derrick Henry – RB: We told Derrick Henry to have a seat last week and he should remain there this week. After a promising start, Henry finished the day with just 44 total yards and zero touchdowns. Murray was the clear workhorse last Sunday (20 total targets to Henry’s 7), and while the rookie’s workload and value will increase over time, for now he should stay on the pine.

Defense: Time to wake up last week’s sleeper pick and move them to the pine. Yes, the final score was misleading. The Titans’ defense all but dominated the Vikings last week. But this week they face a potent Detroit offense whose strength is passing the ball…and Tennessee’s secondary just so happens to be the Achilles Heel of the unit. The Lions put up 39 points and over 400 yards of offense last week. Red flags everywhere.

Sleeper

Marcus Mariota – QB: The face of the franchise had a rough opener last week, his two turnovers-for-touchdowns were the difference in the game. But from a fantasy perspective Mariota was solid. He also completed 25 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns…against a stout Vikings defense. We just highlighted the potency of Detroit’s offense, which means that Marioa could be in for a good ole’ fashion shootout Sunday at high noon. If your current starting qb is dinged up or has a rough matchup, then Mariota is definitely worth consideration this week.
